Verifying a Zultanite purchase

1. Demand a lab report. A GIA, IGS, or recognized national-lab report should accompany any meaningful Zultanite transaction. The report should confirm species (color-change diaspore, α-AlO(OH)) and origin (Türkiye).
2. Photograph the stone under three illuminants. Daylight (D65, ~6500 K), indoor incandescent (~3000 K), and candlelight (~1850 K). The shift between sage-green and raspberry-pink should be visible. Have the seller or lab provide these photos, not yourself.
3. Verify the carat weight and dimensions. The lab report should match the seller’s claimed weight to two decimal places.
4. Compare against the suggested-retail table. See /value/ for the published per-carat reference figures.
5. Trace provenance to Türkiye. Zultanite is a single-source gem. Documentation should trace back to İlbir Mountains, Muğla Province.

What to avoid

• Sellers without lab reports — for any stone above the smallest sizes.
• Investment guarantees — see /value/ for why we do not treat Zultanite as an investment.
• “Treated Zultanite” — gem-quality color-change diaspore is sold untreated. Any “treatment” claim is misleading or misidentified material.
• Non-Türkiye origin without disclosure — diaspore exists in many localities, but only İlbir Mountains material is gem-quality color-change. Other-locality diaspore should be sold as such, not under the Zultanite trade name.
